Travelling the world and how it impacts me
You might not know that I started out in East Germany walled in – literally – and not being able to travel the world as I can now. Maybe because of that my appreciation for wanderlust is deeper than you’d guess. I came to the conclusion that one of the greatest blessings I am receiving is the ability to travel because it influences my thinking about people, perspectives and how easily we humans clash or misunderstand each other. Every trip I do – on my own or with my hubby – are a gift. Not only because we are able to go in the first place – many people in this world can’t – but also because it has taught me a few fundamental things that continue to shape my thought process:
- To meet different people during my travels from different cultures and their own different histories widens my own horizon. It has taught me a lot about me and that my way of thinking is just one version but not THE version of seeing the world.
- I always ask questions and then listen! This has opened so many more doors and hearts for me rather than putting people in boxes and stereotyping them by their looks or any preconceived ideas about who they should be. It has happened to me many hurtful times and previously I’ve probably done my fair share in that department as well. Now I am more open to learning and growing, and understanding that everyone has something to share. We are all on a journey.
- “Be brave and push yourself.” This is what I am telling myself in one way or another on each trip. Fear is my companion and I would be lying if I said that I never encounter situations that make me feel uncomfortable or frighten me. But I don’t need to let fear overpower me. It gives me a good dose of sensibility so I can escape situations that could turn south, but it should never stop me from exploring more, meeting new people or going to new places. Adventures grow you and you always come back enriched.
I hope that you let travel influence you too and in return, influence people in your life in a positive way. The world needs less hate + judgement and more love, kindness and empathy.
A small selection of my travels can be found in my wanderlust gallery here. I’m always updating this gallery with my most recent travels, as well as uploading my archives too, so make sure to come back from time to time 🙂 Combining my travel photography with my love for creating portraits for woman, couples and families has had me arrive at vacation photo shoots, epic destination portrait session and stylish destination weddings. Follow me on Instagram or Facebook to get updates and inspiration.
I might have started out late with travelling but I sure never stopped since! This huge Pacific centred world map – because I am a kiwi by choice 😉 – lets us celebrate those travel adventures every day and we haven’t even set foot on every continent yet!
